Onion Rings
- 2 large yellow onions Sliced into ½ inch rings
- 2 cups panko
- ½ cup flour for dusting
Batter
- ½ cup flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- ½ teaspoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne
- 2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Preparation
With a sharp knife, remove the outer skins of the onions. Slice each onion into ½ inch thick rings and push out the individual rings.
Into a large bowl, place ½ cup of flour.
In a second bowl, combine ½ cup flour, 1 cup of milk, and 1 egg. Whisk together until a batter forms. Add brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, smoked paprika, kosher salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
In a third bowl, add 2 cups of panko.
Coat each ring in flour, then dip into the batter and coat in panko. Place on a sheet tray.
Frying
Place a frying pan over medium-high heat and add about 1 cup of canola oil. Once heated, gently drop your rings in and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel lined tray. Season each with kosher salt.
Serve hot with a dip of your choosing!
